As Donald Trump is disgracing the name of the United States and Democracy with his ban on refugees, our allies in the North are showing the world how a peaceful democratic nation is suppose to act.

Saturday evening, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to President Trump’s executive order banning refugees and halting immigration from several countries by welcoming, with wide open arms, anyone “fleeing persecution, terror & war.”

“To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted Saturday evening.

While Trump is forcing America to close its borders and turn away refugees, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has promised that Canada will keep its borders open for incoming refugees who need a place to call home. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s tweet welcoming refugees surely is a clear sign that America’s allies may not be too keen on President Trump’s ideology.

Earlier this morning protesters mounted outside JFK Airport in New York City after two refugees were detained just mere hours after Trumps ban on refugees went into effect.

Hameen Jhalid Darweesh (one of the two refugees) was allowed entry into the United States after Democratic lawmakers Reps Nydia Velazquez and Jerrold Nadler quickly plead his case in front of a judge.

Hameen had been working as an interpreter for the US Military in Iraq for over ten years. He had risked his and his own family’s safety during this time and had secured a travel visa to take his family to America, where they would be safe from retaliation for his service to the US. After initially being denied entry, various lawyers quickly worked to secure his release.
