The Resistance Sings Trump an Impeachment Carol (VIDEO)

Some clever actors, songwriters, and activists got together to sing this special impeachment carol to Donald Trump. And the new year is looking brighter and brighter.

These members of the Resistance sang their special message to Trump on Christmas day to the tune of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” And it is sure to put a big smile on your face.

Here are the lyrics to “We Wish You a Mueller Christmas.”

“We wish you a Mueller Christmas
We wish you a Mueller Christmas
We wish you a Mueller Christmas
and impeachment next year.

“Indictments will come to you and your kin.
Indictments for Christmas and impeachment next year.

“We wish you a Mueller Christmas
We wish you a Mueller Christmas
We wish you a Mueller Christmas
and impeachment next year.

“Subpoenas galore for all of Trump’s men.
Bring forth the grand jury and bring them all year.

“We know you’re in bed with Putin.
We know you’re in bed with Putin.
We know you’re in bed with Putin.
‘Cause your treason is clear.

“We wish you a Mueller Christmas
We wish you a Mueller Christmas
We wish you a Mueller Christmas
and impeachment next year.”

The brilliant viral video was put together and performed by an anti-Trump group including Scott Dworkin from the Democratic Coalition, singer and songwriter Ricky Davila, actress Tara Strong, Khary Penebaker from the DNC, actor Javier Munoz, Virginia Democrat Hassan Ahmad, activist Peter Morley, activist Adam Cohen, and Delaware Dem Shannon Bearman.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone in the Resistance! May 2019 be the year that the criminal Donald Trump is finally held accountable. Hopefully, this is the year that his criminal accomplices will go down too.

And I’m just going to put this out there. With a little luck, Mueller will take down both Trump and his useless Evangelical sidekick Mike Pence. Just think of it! We could end up with a President Pelosi in 2020, and a whole new Democratic President in 2021. And team Trump can stew about the whole thing from behind prison bars. Hey, a girl can dream!

Trump: Walls Work Because Wheels Work And They Use Wheels On Expensive Cars

Trump: Walls Work Because Wheels Work And They Use Wheels On Expensive Cars

While Donald Trump visited the border in McAllen, Texas, on Thursday, he made some jaw-dropping claims, like, for example, that he never said that Mexico would directly pay for his ego-wall. Sure, we remember on the campaign trail when Trump would ask his supporters, “Who is going to pay for it?” and his supporters chanted, “Mexico indirectly!”

OK, so none of that is true. Trump has said that Mexico will directly pay for the wall, and it’s even on his campaign website, noting that Mexico will make a “one-time payment of $5-10 billion.”

And there are tons of videos documenting his promise.

That’s not even the weirdest part of his claims today. Trump tried to explain that using a wall, which critics have said is medieval, would be effective because of the ancient invention of the wheel and noted that wheels are effective and still commonly used in modern times. Wheels, however, were invented long after walls.

Warning: The following will suck IQ points out of your head:

“They say a wall is medieval. Well, a wheel is older than a wall,” Trump said, though the earliest known border wall is actually thousands of years older than the wheel. “And I looked, and every single car out there, even the really expensive ones that the Secret Service uses — and believe me they are expensive — I said, ‘Do they all have wheels?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Oh. I thought it was medieval.’”

He continued: “The wheel is older than the wall. You know that? There are some things that work. A wheel works and a wall works.”

It’s really odd that the president of the United States looked at every single car that he could to see if they had wheels. To my knowledge, cars do not drive on skis, only wheels.

The shutdown was caused by a dispute over $5.7 billion that Trump had demanded to fund his vanity wall.

In 2004, though, Trump gave a speech, telling students at Wagner College in Staten Island that walls are penetrable.

“I’ll tell you, to me, the second-most important thing after love what you do is never, ever give up,” Trump told the students. “Don’t give up. Don’t allow it to happen. If there’s a concrete wall in front of you, go through it. Go over it. Go around it. But get to the other side of that wall.”

Yeeahhh, he said that.

How Undocumented Alien Mark Burnett Made The ‘Presidential Apprentice’ Possible

How Undocumented Alien Mark Burnett Made The ‘Presidential Apprentice’ Possible

I have always said that reality television would be the downfall of western civilization. According to Patrick Radden Keefe at the New Yorker, the man who made Donald Trump’s cultural comeback possible is downright proud of putting all of humanity in danger.

Keefe details how Mark Burnett, the producer behind ‘The Apprentice,’ carefully crafted a new image for the washed-up D-lister that had no relationship to the reality of his sad little empire.

“The Apprentice” portrayed Trump not as a skeezy hustler who huddles with local mobsters but as a plutocrat with impeccable business instincts and unparalleled wealth—a titan who always seemed to be climbing out of helicopters or into limousines. “Most of us knew he was a fake,” Braun told me. “He had just gone through I don’t know how many bankruptcies. But we made him out to be the most important person in the world. It was like making the court jester the king.” Bill Pruitt, another producer, recalled, “We walked through the offices and saw chipped furniture. We saw a crumbling empire at every turn. Our job was to make it seem otherwise.”

According to people who worked on the show, it was where Trump got used to creating his own reality and then letting staff scramble to edit objective reality into a semblance of his imaginary one.

At the end of each episode, Trump determined which competitor should be “fired.” But, as Braun explained, Trump was frequently unprepared for these sessions, with little grasp of who had performed well. Sometimes a candidate distinguished herself during the contest only to get fired, on a whim, by Trump. When this happened, Braun said, the editors were often obliged to “reverse engineer” the episode, scouring hundreds of hours of footage to emphasize the few moments when the exemplary candidate might have slipped up, in an attempt to assemble an artificial version of history in which Trump’s shoot-from-the-hip decision made sense. During the making of “The Apprentice,” Burnett conceded that the stories were constructed in this way, saying, “We know each week who has been fired, and, therefore, you’re editing in reverse.” Braun noted that President Trump’s staff seems to have been similarly forced to learn the art of retroactive narrative construction, adding, “I find it strangely validating to hear that they’re doing the same thing in the White House.”

There is a lot to unpack in this long article, including some nuance about Burnett’s dissatisfaction with the Trump candidacy and presidency. Nevertheless, Keefe leaves the strong impression of a titanic ego with strong whiffs of right wing idiocy. An acolyte of the Tony Robbins self-help cult, Burnett has also referred to himself and his wife as “the noisiest Christians in Hollywood,” hinting at a toxic sense of righteousness.

And check out this quote, which is the sort of thing you get from pompous libertarian assholes on Reddit:

Long before he met Trump, Burnett had developed a Panglossian confidence in the power of branding. “I believe we’re going to see something like the Microsoft Grand Canyon National Park,” he told the New York Times in 2001. “The government won’t take care of all that—companies will.”

Finally, nothing could possibly top the revelation that the British-born Burnett “later described himself as the quintessential immigrant” when he walked out of the airport in Los Angeles on a whim to seek fame and fortune in Hollywood: “I had no money, no green card, no nothing.” He eventually got a green card through his first marriage.

With all this wall-related government shutdown drama and refugee caravan hysteria, it would figure that Trump rose to his fake glory on the back of an undocumented alien.

TSA Workers Accepting Free Food, Facing Eviction, As They Miss First Paycheck

TSA Workers Accepting Free Food, Facing Eviction, As They Miss First Paycheck

Array

Today is “D” day, for “dreaded” for TSA workers because this is the first paycheck they’ve missed and the heat is on. The average TSA worker makes $35,000 a year, and the majority of them live paycheck to paycheck. They’re doing what they have to do to survive. New York Times:

The workers, many of them still in their T.S.A. uniforms after finishing their shifts, showed up to collect food at a makeshift pantry the foundation set up in a parking lot near the airport, said Kathleen Lee, director of services for the foundation. She said the foundation would continue offering food to federal employees twice a week at the White Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Cary, N.C., for “as long as necessary.”

Ms. Lee said the workers were not sheepish about accepting the handouts. She said that one of them told her, “If I’m getting free groceries then I can pay my light bill.”

“It’s difficult to budget things like food, or knowing which bills to pay, when you simply don’t know when you’ll have money again,” said a 29-year-old man who works for the T.S.A. at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.

This same 29-year-old man also told the Times that he had contacted all his creditors to explain his situation but none of them had a program to fit it. Apparently banks and other lending institutions never thought to provide for an instance where a sociopath trust fund baby throws a tantrum and wrecks peoples’ livelihoods over an issue involving his ego and his image. This young man has done what most people would do in his circumstance, he’s running up his credit cards. The president of the Air Lines Pilots Association was dead on, when he said that workers affected by the government shutdown were going to incur personal financial damages that would take them a long time to recover from, if at all. You can’t pay back a lot of credit card debt when you make $35,000 a year and the high interest will kill you, but Trump would have no way in the world of knowing that, and wouldn’t understand it if you tried to explain it to him.

This same TSA agent also received a letter from DHS, which he was supposed to show to  his landlord. It says TSA workers “are unlikely to be able to pay for their housing for the foreseeable future,” but he said it has “been of little assistance.”

A TSA agent at O’Hare, Christine Vitel, spoke of her plight with CNN. She showed the same letter to her landlord and she’s facing eviction. RawStory:

“We just, of course, found out a couple days ago we are not getting our paycheck, and yesterday when I was at work, my son texted me a picture,” Vitel recalled. “I got a five-day notice from — I have a house, I bought a house, but I rent the land. My community sent me a five-day notice to pay on my lot rent.”

“They are aware of the permanent home security letter [letter from DHS, referenced above] I received, and they said they would work with me,” she continued. “However, when  spoke to them yesterday, the receptionist Melissa stated that I needed to pay my rent, and if I don’t pay my rent within five days she’ll have to see what the manager wants to do and that could be court procedures”

“I told him, I’m not refusing to pay my rent, and I said, it’s going to be late because I’m not getting a paycheck,” the TSA agent added.

The bottom line is that in the free market place, if one person or group of people can’t pay for something, the seller goes to the buyer who can pay. And another thing that dead beat Donald Trump doesn’t understand, is that landlords have bills of their own to pay. Trump’s started a domino effect here which could affect many thousands more people, but he doesn’t care.

For the moment, TSA agents are still showing up and doing the job, because they took an oath of office and they take their oath a hell of a lot more seriously than the buffoon in the White House who caused all this mess, takes his, that much is certain. But despite that fact, don’t look for things to stay rosy.

“It’s like you feel that silent tension that’s going to build up later on,” said the [TSA] officer, a two-year veteran who lives in Queens and takes care of his parents. He said he could manage without a paycheck for now, but a shutdown lasting months or longer would be another matter.

“If it continues for a year, then the question is can you survive?” he said. Eventually, he suggested, he and his co-workers might start having to choose between food and shelter — and probably would cut back on food first.

So Donald Trump will go down in history as the first *resident to starve government workers. Either that, or as the first *resident to run them off in droves. Some TSA workers have already resigned and look for more to do so. Trump always hurts anybody who trusts him or works for him. These TSA workers and other workers affected by the government shutdown, didn’t know that they would be working for him, per se, but now they’re finding themselves going the way of all the workers Trump has stiffed. They’re getting screwed and they’re going to have to pay the price for Trump’s lack of character for years to come — while he walks away, scot free.

NRA illegally coordinated campaign ads with Republican Senate candidates

Mother Jones is reporting that the National Rifle Association illegally shared information with Republican Senate campaigns in at least three states. In Missouri and Montana during the 2018 election, and in North Carolina in 2016, the NRA’s media consultant worked directly for Republican candidates in “an apparent violation of laws designed to prevent independent groups from synchronizing their efforts with political campaigns.” The candidates known to have benefited from the NRA’s illegal coordination were Josh Hawley in Missouri, Matt Rosedale in Montana, and Richard Burr in North Carolina.

In 2018, Mother Jones uncovered coordination between the NRA and the Trump campaign in which both employed the company National Media Research to direct their advertising. By operating through the same agency, ads for Trump and the NRA could play off each other, coordinating message and placement. The NRA did the same thing with Republican Senate candidates, using a single firm to place NRA ads favoring those candidates, or attacking their opponents, so as to reinforce messages and provide optimal timing.

And that is simply against the law. FEC regulations bar outside groups from sharing any information. That’s not just polling, or working together on creating ads. That’s also ad placement strategy. Vendors who work with both candidates and organizations are supposed to create an “internal firewall” in their staff so that no one knows information from both campaigns. In the case of the NRA and Republican candidates, it appears that there wasn’t even a gesture toward creating such a wall.

“All evidence points to coordination,” said Larry Noble, the general counsel of the FEC from 1987 to 2000, in response to a detailed description of the documents. “It’s hard to understand how you’d have the same person authorizing placements for the NRA and the candidate and it not be coordination.”

With Russian operative Maria Butina coordinating with the NRA, the NRA admitting that it took in Russian funds, and the FBI investigating whether those funds went straight to the NRA’s $30 million campaign to promote Trump, it would seem possible that some of those same forces might have also slipped some dollars toward support of Republican Senate candidates.

But whether or not Republicans were supported directly by illegal funds from Moscow, it appears clear that they were supported by illegal ad coordination from the NRA.

Racists Meltdown After Newly Elected Congresswoman Swears Oath On Thomas Jefferson’s Copy Of Koran

Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib asked to be sworn into the House of Representatives using a Koran once owned by Thomas Jefferson in lieu of a Bible and the proverbial s*it hit the fan. To add a comic spin to the proceeding, none other than evangelical wingnut Vice President Mike Pence conducted the swearing in where this (undoubtedly to his mind) heretical request was made.

These people don’t have a long memory, apparently. Twelve years ago, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) used the same Koran for his swearing in ceremony as Congress’ first Muslim member.  People were freaking out then as well, arguing that only the Bible was suitable. People also don’t seem to remember that virtually every ethnic group immigrating to the United States has been the victim of prejudice at one time or other, Jews, Italians, Poles, you name it. My ancestors used to see signs in the windows “No Irish Need Apply.”

We live in interesting times, to say the very least.

Video of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez dancing in college shocks AOC-obsessed right wing—and nobody else

The right wing’s obsession with New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has led to the discovery of a video made in her college days, and remarkably enough, its members consider it damning.

It all started in July 2009, when Ocasio-Cortez was a student at Boston University, and a clever YouTube user did a mashup of 1980s Brat Pack dance sequences, using the hit Phoenix song “Lisztomania” as a soundtrack. Featuring clips from films like The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, and Footloose, the original video didn’t chart massive views, but it did inspire remakes across the globe.

From Brooklyn to São Paulo, Manila to Austin, dancers and filmmakers across the world came together to make their own versions of the mashup, each paying tribute to their own city. By September 2010, students (and a mascot) at Boston University decided to come together to highlight the beauty of their campus community by participating in the Brat Pack Mashup.

It’s cheesy, it’s fun, and it’s corny. It’s all the things a silly college video should be. But because then-student, now-Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez participated in it (playing Ally Sheedy’s role in The Breakfast Club), it’s now fair game in the Rght’s endless war on AOC.

This erroneous tweet from some wannabe “Q” account says she’s “America’s favorite commie” dancing in high school. Come on now, Q! We all know she’s America’s favorite Democratic Socialist, and she was in college when she channeled her inner “basket case” alongside her classmates.

Nice touch with the music change, though.

The outrage over the video, predictably, has been swift and all-encompassing.

Comedian Patton Oswalt even predicted her resignation.

Other users hypothesized on what other career-enders for AOC might be out there.

Warning: These revelations are super graphic and could be utterly devastating to the freshman rep.

Another user dug up some sordid secrets from her bartending days.

Another user pondered the impact upon our great country.

Still another admitted they had nothing left to look forward to …

… while another one expressed concern for impressionable young minds.

This video makes it clear that Ocasio-Cortez has no future in the judiciary, of course.

She’ll also never be vice president.

At least one user expressed relief that Ocasio-Cortez has put her past behind her.

“Busy Tonight” executive producer Caissie St. Onge, however, skipped the snark and got right to the realistic point, killing all of Q’s dreams of AOC destruction.

Finally, former FBI agent Asha Rangappa used her super sleuthing skills to unmask the person behind the Q curtain for who they really are.

While all of this career-ending discussion was happening, Rep. Ocasio Cortez was busy doing her new job.

She also took time out to vote for Nancy “NDP” Pelosi as speaker of the House. True to form, the folks who are obsessed with her had opinions.

But honestly, the Right isn’t alone in its obsession with the youngest person ever elected to the House.

Do your thing, AOC.

Paul Manafort Pressured By Russian Over Debts To Sway Election Results, First In Cyprus

The 2016 election was not Paul Manafort’s first time at the rodeo of swaying political elections. He’s an old pro.

Bottom line, Manafort was very much in debt. He had to figure out a way to get out of it. So, sell out the United States, why not? TIME Magazine:

When the U.S. government put out its latest sanctions list on Dec. 19, the man named at the top did not seem especially important. Described in the document as a former Russian intelligence officer, he was accused of handling money and negotiations on behalf of a powerful Russian oligarch. The document did not mention that the man, Victor Boyarkin, had links to the 2016 campaign of President Donald Trump.

A months-long investigation by TIME, however, found that Boyarkin, a former arms dealer with a high forehead and a very low profile, was a key link between a senior member of the Trump campaign and a powerful ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In his only interview with the media about those connections, Boyarkin told TIME this fall that he was in touch with Trump’s then-campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, in the heat of the presidential race on behalf of the Russian oligarch. “He owed us a lot of money,” Boyarkin says. “And he was offering ways to pay it back.”

Victor Boyarkin is an interesting character.

The outlines of Boyarkin’s career suggest a life spent at the intersection of Russian espionage, diplomacy and the arms trade. Having served at the Russian embassies in the U.S. and Mexico in the 1990s, dealing primarily in military affairs, he says he turned his focus to the arms trade in the early 2000s. His specialty was the export of small and medium-sized warships and other naval vessels that were produced in Soviet-era shipyards across Russia.

Read the entire article and it will begin to make sense to you why Donald Trump panders so much not only to Vladimir Putin, but to the other mega-buyer of arms in the world, Mohammad bin Salman. It’s all about debt and not being able to handle money. Donald Trump and Paul Manafort are birds of a feather — ostrich, perhaps.

That explosion you just heard?  It was Twitler Teletubby’s head.  Now, all we need are the Senate votes to override any veto.  Since they voted unanimously on the last CR, it’s probably done.  So, they push the purple-state Senator out to see if anyone from the White House shoots.  Or even notices?

Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who faces a potentially tough reelection in 2020, says Congress should re-open the federal government, even without a deal on funding President Trump’s border wall.

Gardner is the first Senate Republican to call for ending the partial shutdown even without a deal on Trump’s demand for $5 billion to fund a border wall.

“I think we should pass a continuing resolution to get the government back open. The Senate has done it last Congress, we should do it again today,” he said.

[…]

“We can pass legislation that has the appropriations number in it while we continue to get more but we should continue to do our jobs and get the government open,” Gardner said.

Rachel Maddow Beats Her Fox News Competition Every Single Day for the Whole Month of December

The new year is beginning with an incredible boost from the remarkable performance of Rachel Maddow’s program on MSNBC. She has been dominating her Fox New competition, Sean Hannity, ever since the midterm election in early November. But her numbers for December are truly spectacular and may indicate a monumental shift.

The success of Maddow’s program may even be getting to Donald Trump. While he has never tweeted about her since becoming president, he did run an ad on Facebook that featured her as his top nemesis. Trump is notoriously frightened by strong women (see his fearful behavior around House Speaker Nancy Pelosi). And he has good reason to be scared of Maddow. Her program provides some of the most incisive, detailed accounts of Trump’s criminality and analyses of the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller. That attention to the facts in a comprehensible form has paid off for Maddow.

The Nielsen ratings for The Rachel Maddow Show have exceeded in almost every way possible. She beat the Sean Hannity show every single day for the entire month of December. Granted, he was on vacation for a small part of that time, but so was she. The numbers weren’t even close. Maddow topped Hannity by a whopping forty-seven percent in total viewers. She also whooped him by twenty-one percent in the all-important advertising demographic of 25-54 year olds.

What’s more, Maddow powered MSNBC to historic highs. The network was the third most-watched channel in primetime for all of cable TV, not just cable news. And it was the second most-watched basic cable network across the 24-hour day for 2018. It was the only network that posted double-digit growth over the prior year. And it was number one among African-American viewers for the year.

The rest of the MSNBC schedule also enjoyed record ratings. Lawrence O’Donnell, Brian Williams, and Nicole Wallace regularly beat their time-period competitors. And the dayside programs with Katy Tur, Andrea Mitchell, Ali Velshi, Stephanie Ruhle, Chris Hayes, etc., leaped to new highs. And all of this happened while Fox News either declined or made impotent gains of one or two percent.

This should inform the rest of the media that intelligent, honest, reporting and analysis is a winning programming strategy. The public is tired of deliberately hostile panels and ridiculous attempts to balance facts with lies and nonsense. And as the new year progresses with more revelations from Mueller and the expected oversight hearings in the new Congress, the media needs to rise to the occasion and fulfill its obligations to the people.

That means rejecting Trump’s anti-constitutional assaults on the free press that he frames in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people.” Maddow proves that when the press respects the principles of ethical journalism, rather than devolving into State TV flunkies (aka Fox News) the people will reward them with their viewership, trust, and loyalty.
