Lakers-Nets close to deal featuring Brook Lopez, D’Angelo Russell

The Los Angeles Lakers are trading D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov to the Brooklyn Nets for Brook Lopez and the 27th overall pick in Thursday’s NBA draft, sources told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

The deal was first reported by The Vertical.

Russell, the second overall pick in the 2015 draft, averaged 15.6 points and 4.8 assists this past season. The Lakers have the No. 2 pick in Thursday’s draft and could be in line to take former UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball.

Lopez, 29, was a standout for the Nets in 2016-17 as he averaged 20.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 blocks. He also became a threat from 3-point range as he attempted 387 shots from behind the line and made 34.6 percent of them.

He enters 2017-18 in the final season of his contract, signed in July 2015, which will pay him $22.64 million next season.

Mozgov is entering the second year of a four-year, $64 million contract.

The deal gives the Lakers significant cap room next summer. With close to $60 million off the books by that time after Tuesday’s deal, they could chase one or two max free agents.

Indiana Pacers superstar Paul George already has indicated he would like to join the Lakers when he hits free agency in 2018. George is from the Los Angeles area.

But George could be L.A.-bound before that. The Lakers and Pacers already have had trade discussions regarding the All-Star forward as part of a potential megadeal ahead of Thursday’s draft.

‘I Should Have Left Them In Jail’ (Trump’s Juicy TWEET)

‘I Should Have Left Them In Jail’ (TWEET)

President Donald Trump has regularly shown that he will lash out against people he feels do not show him the proper respect. Go ahead and add three players of the UCLA Men’s Basketball program to that list, all thanks to LaVar Ball, who is the father of one of those players, as well as our President’s tiny ego.

The three basketball players were arrested in China for shoplifting sunglasses. One of the players, LiAngelo Ball, is part of a high profile basketball family. His father, LaVar, had some controversial words concerning the President’s role in bringing his son home.

Appearing on ESPN Friday, LaVar was asked about the President’s role in keeping his son out of jail. LaVar responded in his typical braggadocio:

What was he over there for? Don’t tell me nothing. Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out.”

In reality, the three athletes never actually went to jail. Trump spoke with the Chinese President Xi Jinping after hearing of their predicament, and they were allowed to return to the United States. They have since been suspended by the UCLA athletic program.

However, LaVar’s comments to ESPN appeared to strike a raw nerve with President Trump. He posted the following to Twitter, again making use of his newfound 280 character limit:

His tweet reads:

Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail!”

Just… unpack that.

The President of the United States is picking a fight with three college students, all because the father of one of those students brushed off the President’s role in keeping his son out of a Chinese jail for shoplifting sunglasses.

Meanwhile, the former President of the United States was apparently born in Kenya and is a secret Muslim spy. His handpicked predecessor is the leader of a tightly knit criminal conspiracy (and a WOMAN!). She also apparently raped children in the basement of a pizza parlor.

Paul Heyman Praises AJ Styles After Loss to Lesnar at Survivor Series

paul heyman aj styles praise promo survivor series brock lesnar results promo

AJ Styles‘ impressive showing against Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series received high praise from an unlikely source after the show … his opponent’s advocate, Paul Heyman.

Heyman cut a promo outside of Brock’s locker room in which he spoke from the heart about Styles and said, “If you’re not an AJ Styles fan, you shouldn’t even be watching WWE. He’s everything that Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart and Ric Flair were to their generation and he’s updated it.”

In case you missed it, Styles lost to Brock at Survivor Series following a stellar match.

“He’s evolved their styles to truly be the single most phenomenal in-ring performer I have ever had the honor, and pleasure, of watching up-close.” Heyman continued, “I’ve been doing this my entire life, no one in the ring has ever compared to what I witnessed tonight, when I had the best seat in the house.”

Considering the names dropped and the talent Heyman has worked with, it’s a massive compliment.
