Luann de Lesseps Recalls the Moment She Broke Her Sobriety – The Real Housewives
The Countess is coming clean!
Luann de Lesseps is opening up about the moment she broke her sobriety and how she’s doing after her second stint in rehab.
The Real Housewives of New York star tells NBC’s Megyn Kelly that she feels great since leaving rehab but admits every day is a battle.
“I feel good. I feel great actually, but every day is a struggle. I take it day by day,” she told Kelly. “I’m going to be 30 days sober tomorrow, so I’m celebrating, and I have this whole new life.”
Luann is staying on course with the help of AA meetings and probation from her Christmas Eve arrest.
“It’s good because I can’t drink, and really at this point, I feel like I’m almost allergic to alcohol because I can’t be like most normal people and have a glass or two of wine. I’ll drink the whole bottle and then I’m looking where can I get another bottle? It just doesn’t work for me. I’m just not wired that way,” she explained.
Luann says being sued by her ex-husband and their two children sent her running to alcohol.
As part of her 2009 divorce settlement, Luann received the family’s Bridgehampton home and was supposed to create a trust giving her kids half of the house. Except she never did that thus breaking part of her divorce deal.
Instead, Luann sold her Bridgehampton home for $8 million in 2014 and bought a $3.1 million home in Sag Harbor, NY. No word on what she did with the rest of the money from selling her Bridgehampton home.
The family drama further ignited when Luann decided to sell her Sag Harbor home to buy a new home in Upstate NY.
However, Luann’s version of events is a little different.
“The children weren’t happy about that because it’s their home and I understand that, but I just wanted to move. I felt that I needed more privacy and a lot of people know where I am and I just needed a fresh start,” she explained.
“The ex-husband came to visit and he decided to block me and sue me,” Luann added, referring to her ex-husband Count Alexandre de Lesseps. “I let him stay in my house because we have a great relationship and we still do. I understand why he did it because I was really going big up there upstate with a very big property and since then I’ve decided to take something smaller and keep my home for the children because I love them.”
Luann claims she learned about the lawsuit in the press and felt betrayed which
“I found out about this whole story with the ex-count that I was being sued in the press,” Luann recalled. “That was devastating. I felt betrayed. I felt so hurt by that because I really wanted to move on and I just really wanted to flip this house and get the other one.”
A betrayed and heartbroken Luann then “lost it” and started drinking again with a friend.
“She goes, ‘I love making watermelon martinis.’ I said I’m in,’” Luann recalls.
The RHONY star spiraled out of control as she consumed “two or three” of the watermelon martinis. But her drinking escapade didn’t stop there. Luann continued drinking finishing off “two or three bottles of rosé” by herself and “probably a six pack of beer or something.”
“I can’t have one drink,” Luann admitted. “I don’t know when to stop.”
This spiral ultimately led Luann back into rehab forcing her to miss the RHONY season 10 reunion.
“I had to take care of myself first,” Luann said, wrapping up the interview.
I’m surprised Luann is being so candid. I think she’s finally realized that she has a serious problem with drinking and can’t do it anymore. I wish Luann nothing but success with her sobriety and new way of life.
