Man’s Text Messages With Friend Who Was In Las Veg

During  the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas, many victims texted friends and family to tell them they loved them or to let them know they were okay. Some texts are appearing online. One Imgur user recently posted an exchange with a friend who had gone to the country music concert.

The messages are a terrifying reminder to tell our friends and family that we love them.

This post begins with, “Tell your friends you love them. I almost made a huge mistake.” The caption under this image says, “What could have been the last message I ever sent one of my best friends.”

The caption of the second image reads:

I’m just so happy her and her husband are ok and I’m able to give her a hug tomorrow. Please just take a moment to tell your family and friends how much you love them today. I almost made one of the biggest mistakes of my life tryna be funny. Also, it took 20 minutes to get that return text about them being ok. I haven’t had a panic attack like that in years waiting to hear they were ok.

Other stories reveal terrifying moments for people whose loved ones were at the concert:

Breaking Bad actor Dean Norris was in London filming a movie when he began receiving text messages from his sister. Norris said:

It was a personal shock, I woke up and it was oh two people shot in Las Vegas, and then it was 20 and then it turned to 50. Then I get a text saying [from his sister], “We’re barricaded into some supply room,” and I was like, wow!

Norris continued, saying:

It always seemed like it was somewhere else … like, well, it’s never going to happen to me, it’s never going to happen to us.

Washingtion Post reporter Lynh Bui tweeted this heart-stopping text from a daughter to her mother:

Joseph Lambourne received this text from his wife Jan, who was at the concert:

I love you. I’ve [been] shot. I love [you] so much.

Jan Lambourne is reportedly in stable condition.

This wasn’t the first time J.C. Monticone received an “active shooter” text from his fiancée.

Melissa Castruita, who was an employee at the Inland Regional Center in 2015, first texted those words to Monticone during the San Bernadino Shooting. Unbelievably, she found herself texting them again as Jason Aldean left the stage. Just moments before she had sent this text:

I’m so scared!! Do you hear that? They took jason Aldean’s off stage.

NRA’s Dana Loesch Warns Trump Foes They’ll Go Down ‘In Their Own Fires’ (VIDEO)

NRA’s Dana Loesch Warns Trump Foes They’ll Go Down ‘In Their Own Fires’ (VIDEO)

It initially appeared that the National Rifle Association had come down from the ceiling at last in the wake of the massacre in Las Vegas. The organization that has come to oppose even the most basic reforms to our gun laws signaled its support for a review of the legality of “bump stocks,” the attachment that allows a semi-automatic weapon to fire like an automatic weapon. That was how Stephen Paddock was able to mow down so many people so quickly.

That moment of sanity officially ended on Friday, when the NRA officially went all-in on the far-right effort to bully those opposing Trump into silence. The NRA rolled out a new ad in which its national spokeswoman, Dana Loesch, claimed with a straight face that the opposition to Trump is an insult.

Watch the ad here.

Loesch claimed that we were seeing “the most ruthless attack” on a president and his supporters ever. She claimed that it was “an insult to each of us” to see Trump’s opponents in government, media, academia, and other areas engage in “hateful defiance” of Trump.

But Loesch claimed that those who opposed Trump have another think coming if they think “we’ll let them get away with” the numerous leaks and “phony accusations” against Trump. She claimed that the resistance to Trump has hopes of building a new society “on the ashes of what they burned down.” But Loesch warns that their fate will be somewhat different.

“No, their fate will be failure and they will perish in the political flames of their own fires.”

One has to wonder where Loesch was during Obama’s presidency. After all, if she thinks the day-in, day-out claims that Obama wasn’t born here and that he was a closet radical Mooslim weren’t as outrageous as merely speaking out against Trump and taking to the streets, she really is delusional.

Or perhaps she has a short memory. Back in 2012, Loesch had no problem with fellow right-wing talker Caiden Cowger–at the time, a 14-year-old darling of the conservative talk circuit–saying that Obama made kids gay. As Loesch saw it, Cowger was just being “a conservative teen.” Also in 2012, Loesch peddled the false claim that Obama had spent two years at a radical Muslim madrassa.

And how, pray tell, is speaking out against Trump and his almost daily outrages an act of “hateful defiance”? Does Loesch expect us to sit on our hands when we have a president who finds it acceptable to tweet and retweet violent GIFs attacking his opponents? And does she expect us to ignore the prospect that his own campaign was willing to collude with Russia? That’s not “hateful defiance,” Dana. That’s being a loyal opposition.

Perhaps Loesch is still trying to convince herself, or someone else, of her bonafides. For those who don’t know, Loesch grew up as a liberal Democrat, but veered sharply to the right after the September 11 attacks. Additionally, she was a staunch never-Trumper for much of the campaign, and went as far as to blast Trump for hiring Steve Bannon as campaign CEO. Now she’s actively helping bludgeon those who dare oppose Trump into silence. Just like her party switch, this morph appears to be total–and opportunistic as all hell.

There’s another plausible explanation–she’s mouthing the words of the men who actually sign her checks. Remember, the NRA is merely the mouthpiece of a gun industry made up mostly of privately-owned companies. So when Loesch, Wayne LaPierre, and any other NRA personality open their mouths, they’re actually speaking for a cabal of faceless men who are not accountable to anyone.

And now it appears that those faceless men have firmly hitched their wagons to Trump in hopes of keeping their earnings up. In so doing, they have abandoned any claim to be the voice of “honest gun owners.” If any NRA members who actually support sanity in our gun laws are reading this, it’s time to pack up and leave. This latest ad proves the NRA doesn’t speak for you anymore. The NRA in its present form should be rendered as an empty hulk–one of many that deserve to be dragged down when Trump goes down.

Tax Cuts For The Rich Are Front And Center In The GOP Budget

Tax Cuts For The Rich Are Front And Center In The GOP Budget

Well, they did it.

Thursday, congressional Republicans passed a non-binding budget resolution that threatens to cut $473 billion from Medicare and $1 trillion from Medicaid so the top one percent of the population can enjoy a $1.5 trillion in tax cut.

What this means is the 99 percent of us may expect to see $1.5 trillion added to the deficit, and working families, the elderly, children, the sick, and poor will suffer the most.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), said:

“This nasty and backwards budget green-lights cuts to Medicare and Medicaid in order to give a tax break to big corporations and the wealthiest Americans.”

Only one Republican opposed the resolution: Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), who commented:

“I could not in good conscience vote for a budget that ignores spending caps that have been the law of the land for years and simply pretend it didn’t matter.”

The bill’s instructions include a provision that Congress needs to pass the tax cuts under budget reconciliation, requiring 51 votes to pass, a process that shuts out Democrats and the possibility of a filibuster.

The House will likely take up the Senate bill, pass it, bypassing a conference between the two congressional chambers.

Budget Committee member Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), retiring this year, said:

“The only thing about this that matters is preparation for the tax reform. Other than that, these amendment votes, everything about this is a hoax. A hoax. It has no impact on anything whatsoever. If I were chairman of the budget committee, I would dismantle it. I would move to end it immediately in its current form. Unless we create a real budget process, which this is not, our country’s fiscal situation will continue to go down the tube, and we have no mechanism to control real spending, 70 percent of which is mandatory, that’s not even covered by this.”

Hoax or no hoax, it didn’t stop Corker from voting for it.

House Speaker Paul Ryan is still insisting middle class families will see significant tax cuts.

He said:

“When we get the numbers, which are going to be finalized in matter of days, then we can put the whole bill out. If this was a tax increase on middle-income taxpayers, we wouldn’t be doing this. This is about lowering people’s taxes in the middle-class, simplifying the tax system and growing this economy.”

According to a report out of the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), though, a $5.4 trillion cut over 10 years that would ratchet up defense spending will do nothing to help working families.

The report states:

Tax cuts provide no durable solution to any genuine economic problem for America’s working families, but do make some genuine problems even worse.”

Under this plan, those already wealthy would see the most significant gains. Low- and middle-income families, however, would receive a pittance.

Overall, the best investment is in low- and middle-income Americans’ financial security, not in the practice of handing more money to those who already literally have too much.

Maxine Waters Lays A Nasty Burn On The Trump White House (TWEETS)

This week we discovered there are no honorable people in the Trump administration.

It had long been assumed that Chief of Staff John Kelly, a former Marine officer, was the mature, stable center in the White House, but his hateful remarks about Florida Congresswoman Frederica Wilson proved that he too has lost whatever decency he once had.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), weighed in on the week’s events Saturday, and she made sure she did so on Twitter, since that seems to be the only thing President Trump takes time to read:

Waters specifically called out Kelly and said he should apologize to Congresswoman Wilson:

And Waters also directly challenged Trump, who earlier in the day Saturday had suggested that Wilson was “wacky” and “killing the Democratic party:

To that, Waters replied:

Damn! Now that’s how you take down the Orange Menace: Remind him that his own Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, thinks he’s a complete idiot. Tillerson has yet to deny he said that.

Trump was back at it Sunday, again attacking Congresswoman Wilson:

In response, Trump got plenty of grief from others in the Twitterverse:

The Trump administration is nothing but a collection of the biggest scumbags ever assembled in one place. Even the so-called “good” people wind up succumbing to the evil that lies at the center of Donald Trump.
