Mean Gene Okerlund has passed away
We are sad to report that legendary announcer “Mean” Gene Okerlund has passed away.
You can write several books on Okerlund’s life because he’s done so much in the wrestling business.
Okerlund started out in the AWA in the 1970s after a career in radio. He was one of the big names signed to the World Wrestling Federation during their expansion across the country as the territories began to fade.
Okerlund was a staple on WWF broadcasts into the early 1990s before signing with WCW.
He returned to the WWF in 2001 after WCW closed and he did commentary with Bobby “The Brain” Heenan at WrestleMania 17 during the Gimmick Battle Royal.
Okerlund continued to work for the company doing work on DVD’s and some WWE Network programming.
We send our deepest condolences to Okerlund’s friends and family. Okerlund was 76 years old.
Mean Gene I love you my brother HH
