Roman Reigns says a WWE offseason could be a “great benefit to our performers”
Roman Reigns is back in the swing of things with WWE and he’s expected to go back on a full-time live event schedule by next month.
During his chat with TalkSPORT on Thursday, Reigns was asked to give his thoughts on the possibility of an off-season in WWE. It’s something many wrestlers would like because it would give their bodies a chance to rest and it could reduce the number of injuries per year. Reigns seems to be on board with the idea.
He said, “Unfortunately, we don’t have an off-season like most sports or other kinds of forms of entertainment or competition but, you know, I think if we could make it work, it would give a great benefit to our performers and our fans as well. It would definitely give our performers another couple of months if not a full quarter to rest and recover, not only just from a physical standpoint, but creatively.”
Reigns said WWE Superstars work year-round and it can be tough to grow and evolve when you’re doing things over and over. He added, “Only we can handle this and we’ve proved it, so it’s just a part of the gig. I don’t think it’s something that shouldn’t be looked into, but if the schedule stays the same I’m gonna be the guy that’ll run it.”
WWE used to heavily rely on live events and pay-per-views to generate revenue. It was the lifeblood of the wrestling business in the 80s and 90s. However, live event figures have been dropping and the company is barely breaking even on non-televised shows and most of their money is coming from their massive TV deals.
A lighter schedule with dedicated time off would go a long way with many people on the roster and could be something that could sway wrestlers into staying with the company instead of leaving for greener pastures.\
