Let’s get this out of the way right at the top: Former Apprentice contestant and Trump White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman loves attention, much like Donald Trump himself. She will say or do what it takes to stay in the public eye. But she’s also known Trump for well over a decade, and you have to wonder how many other people who’ve known him in years past would share this take on Trump’s May 2017 interview with Lester Holt:

“While watching the interview I realized that something real and serious was going on in Donald’s brain. His mental decline could not be denied. Many didn’t notice it as keenly as I did because I knew him way back when. They thought Trump was being Trump, off the cuff. But I knew something wasn’t right.”

Trump, of course, surrounds himself with loyalists and suck-ups who’d never say anything and is further protected by the non-disclosure agreements many people in his past signed and by the adoration of his Republican base, which makes it a scary prospect for any Republican to raise red flags about him (were they so inclined). But as much as it’s possible that he’s just that evil a narcissist, Omarosa is far from the only person who’s watched him speak and thought “something’s not right.”
