Hell in a Cell is on Sunday and I’m back to have some fun predicting the winners of each match — so hit the jump to see if you agree with my picks.
Gotta admit, I’m not super hyped for this event. With No Mercy being two weeks ago and TLC a few weeks away, the PPV fatigue is getting to me once again.
However, the Hell in a Cell match is always a sight to see and it should be a fun show regardless.
Let’s get to the picks!
Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin vs. The Hype Bros
Much like American Alpha, not much has been done with Benjamin and Gable since the duo were recently paired up. Same for The Hype Bros, who have failed to gain momentum since Ryder returned.
Looking at all of those facts, as well as the tease of a Hype Bros breakup, one would think Shelton and Chad pick up the win here and hopefully kickstart some kind of push for the team.
Educated Guess: Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable via pinfall
Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
I have a hard time believing Bobby Roode will be able to get over on the main roster as a babyface, but if anyone can help him get there, it’s Ziggler.
Despite what many people say on social media, I still believe Dolph is money as a heel. If WWE brass want people to cheer for Roode, then putting him against someone who is guaranteed to get boo’ed is a smart way to try making it happen.
Educated Guess: Bobby Roode via pinfall
Randy Orton vs. Rusev
After taking so many losses to Jinder Mahal and Bray Wyatt, it looks like WWE is trying to rebuild Randy Orton as a credible threat in the main event title scene by having him dominate Rusev.
Randy may have said on the Edge and Christian podcast that he’s all about putting over young talent right now, but something tells me Rusev won’t be getting that luxury on Sunday.
Educated Guess: Randy Orton via pinfall
Hell in a Cell – SmackDown Tag Team Championship
The New Day (C) vs. The Usos
The tag team division on SD Live is heavy on babyfaces. Therefore, if this is the final blow-off match for these two teams, the heels winning the titles would seem to be the smartest decision.
WWE loves New Day though and it’s hard to see them taking the titles from Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods since they’re one of the most popular acts on SmackDown Live.
Still, I’m going with my gut on this one.
Educated Guess: Usos via pinfall
United States Championship Match
AJ Styles (C) vs Baron Corbin
It’s hard to explain my thought process here without giving away one of my predictions for later in this article, but I don’t think it’s anything you weren’t already expecting.
I’m pretty confident that Jinder is retaining the title and ending his feud with Shinsuke Nakamura. Looking at the options for who he could feud with afterward, AJ is the only person who makes sense.
Plus, Baron Corbin winning his first title in WWE would be a solid moment for this event. It’s time to give Big Banter some of his confidence back by having him win the United States Championship.
Educated Guess: Baron Corbin via pinfall
Smackdown Women’s Championship
Natalya (C) vs. Charlotte Flair
Charlotte Flair winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship has seemed inevitable since she was moved to the blue brand and, despite Natalya’s great run, I have a feeling they’ll pull the trigger on a title change between these two at HIAC.
Looking forward to this. They’ve put on solid matches in the past and Sunday should be no different.
Educated Guess: Charlotte Flair via submission
WWE Championship Match
Jinder Mahal (C) vs Shinsuke Nakamura
As stated above, I’m pretty confident Jinder will retain the title on Sunday. Especially after WWE basically announced that he’d be the champion when they go to India in December.
The feud between he and Nakamura has been pretty lackluster and I think WWE brass made the right call by not putting this match in a cell. Wouldn’t have added much.
Educated Guess: Jinder Mahal via pinfall after Singh Brothers distraction
Falls-Count-Anywhere Hell in a Cell
Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens
Ah yes, the cage match that added a stipulation which completely negates the point of a cage match.
That aside, it’s always fun to watch Shane McMahon get hardcore. Assuming Owens will toss him around and throw him into stuff for most of the match, before they finally climb the steel structure.
This program has seemingly been designed to make Owens an even bigger threat on SD Live, so I have a hard time believing they’ll give the win to Shane.
Will KO hit his boss with a Pop-Up Powerbomb from the top of the cell though? Sounds pretty crazy, but it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility since Shane likes to top his own stunts.
Educated Guess: Kevin Owens via pinfall
