Around 63% of homes in the United States have at least one garage. Needless to say, garages are quite popular as well as convenient. But what should you do when it’s time to clean garage floors?

You can always try sweeping, but this will only clean the floor so much. If you really want to give your garage floor a deep clean, you’ll need to consider a few different steps. But where should you start?

How can you make sure your garage floor is as clean as possible? Keep reading and learn more about it below.

Declutter and Sweep

The first step will be to declutter the area before you can get started with garage floor cleaning. Most likely, you have a vehicle or two in your garage along with a lot of objects and tools or storage boxes. Whatever the case, you should completely empty out your garage before you get started.

Some might be tempted to leave some of their belongings inside while they clean, but this will ensure that your garage will never be truly clean. If you leave some boxes or tools piled up in the corners of your garage while you clean, you will miss all sorts of dirt, dust, and insects that might be piling up in those corners.

Objects that are elevated off the floor, of course, won’t need to be moved since you can just work around them. Once your garage is completely empty, it will be time to sweep. Sweeping is essential for removing larger pieces of debris and large chunks of dust from your garage.

The Details

It will also remove any pieces of dead grass, dirt, and pieces of items that were left laying on the floor. If you haven’t cleaned your garage in while, you will likely end up with a large clump of dirt that you’ll have to dispose of after sweeping.

After you’re done sweeping, your garage will already start to look a lot cleaner. However, upon closer inspection, you will find that your garage floor will still be covered in fine particles of dirt and dust. This is because a simple broom will not be enough to pick up all of these small particles no matter how hard you try.

For that reason, after you’re done sweeping, you’ll have to move on to using a garage floor cleaner and a sturdy brush to ensure that the remaining dirt is removed.

Scrubbing the Garage Floor

Some people call it a day after sweeping their garage floor, but if you do that, your garage floor will never be truly clean. When you clean out garages, you will want to do the job right. If your garage floor is made of concrete (which most are), you will want to use a special concrete cleaning product on it.  Additionally, you may want to call a Garage Flooring installation company if you think your garage needs a new look.

This will allow you to deep clean the floor without ruining it. This is important because some cleaning products will end up ruining the floor if you’re not careful. Once you get the right cleaning product, drizzle a bit across a small section of the floor.

Keep in mind that it is best to start cleaning from the far side of the room and then clean across the room. That way, when you’re done cleaning, you can step away from the floor rather than on it and you won’t need to worry about getting it dirty again. Using a very stiff brush will provide the best results as such as brush will be able to clean deep down into the concrete.

You can either pour the cleaning product directly onto the floor or you can dip the brush in it. Whatever the case, move the brush in tight circles so that you clean every inch of the floor. Try not to tackle the whole floor at once as this can quickly become an overwhelming task.

What to Know

Instead, you will want to work in small sections. This will make it far easier for you. More than that, it will ensure that you don’t miss any spot on your floor. After you’re done cleaning the floor, don’t wash the cleaning product away just yet.

Instead, allow the cleaner to sit on the floor for a few minutes, about five. This will allow the cleaner to sink into the floor so that it can provide a much deeper clean. This is especially important if your floor is covered in stains.

Just be sure that you don’t leave the product on for so long that it starts to dry. This will leave an ugly sheen that you will have to remove and it may even damage the concrete. Rinse off the cleaning product with some water from your hose and the floor should be as good as new.

Concrete Coating

If you want your garage floor to stay clean in the future, you might want to consider getting a concrete coating such as one from Garage Force. A concrete coating is a protective and stylish coating that is designed to keep garage floors in good shape.

You will find that such a coating only has benefits to offer and, more than that, it is very easy to keep clean.
