Cannabis Comes in a Variety of Forms, Some You Might Not Expect

When the subject of cannabis comes up, many people think of people smoking a joint or using a bong. With more and more evidence being uncovered about its effectiveness in treating many different health conditions, cannabis can now be found in many different forms.

Smoking it recreationally may be at the top of the list for some, but those who are new to using cannabis often choose edibles or other, more convenient forms. It all comes down to personal preference and why it is being used.

Creams, Balms, & Salves

Topical creams infused with cannabis are used to relieve the irritation and inflammation associated with skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. Much of the benefit of oral medications is lost as they pass through the digestive system. When a topical cream is applied, the medication is absorbed directly into the affected area. This allows much of the medication to be used as effectively and efficiently as possible. Creams are incredibly useful and produce left waste.

Capsules

Getting cannabis in capsules is more common. It’s easy for those who like to control and regulate dosage very directly. These capsules, pills, or gelcaps can be comprised of ground cannabis, extracts and concentrates, and in some cases, isolates like CBG only capsules.

If ‘CBG’ got an eyebrow raise, that’s just one of the over 100 different cannabinoids you can find in a typical cannabis plant. Isolates aren’t necessarily directly derived from plants, lots of these compounds are synthetic, even if they directly replicate nature. You might even call isolates eligible for its own entry in this list.

Vapes

Vapes are a popular way of inhaling cannabis. Unlike joints, cigarettes, or pipes, vapes do not have to be lit. Although their use is restricted in much the same way as cigarettes or other tobacco products, a few puffs of the vape and you will begin to feel relief in a few short minutes. Using vape cartridges allows for a more regulated dose than smoking a cannabis cigarette. Depending on what studies you believe, using a vape is also supposed to be healthier than smoking traditional marijuana cigarettes.

Tinctures and Oils

Cannabis tinctures and oils are liquid extracts from the herbs that can be added to other beverages or drops can be placed directly under the tongue. The drops allow the active ingredients to be absorbed through the soft tissues and into the bloodstream. A few drops in the morning and evening will provide relief from chronic pain and inflammation. It is one of the fastest-acting of all the different forms of cannabis.

Edibles

Edibles take many forms including gummies, chocolates, and other soft candies. Gummies are extremely popular and come in a variety of flavors. Each edible contains a certain number of milligrams and can be consumed when necessary to relieve symptoms associated with chronic pain, inflammation, anxiety, depression, as well as many others. Edibles are easy to store and can be carried with you when you are traveling.

Cut for Rolling

If you are like many traditional cannabis users, rolling and smoking your own cigarettes. For some, the simple act of rolling and smoking a cigarette is relaxing and calming for the nerves. The effects of drawing the smoke into the lungs may take a few moments to settle in, but once they do, they will last for several hours. Unless you are in the comfort of your own home, this will be one of the harder forms to consume.
